The Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) enacted in 2002, also known as ‘Public Company Accounting Reform and Investor Protection Act’ was a legislative reaction to many major corporate and accounting scandals. This legislation created the Public Company Accounting and Oversight Board that is involved in overseeing, regulating, inspecting and disciplining accounting firms in their roles as auditors of public companies. The act also covers issues such as auditor independence, corporate governance, internal control assessment, and enhanced financial disclosure. Mueller provides Sarbanes-Oxley Readiness services for public companies to help address the compliance regulations.
